Course Description

This course introduces the fundamental concepts of international relations and comparative politics, emphasizing the importance of understanding Japan within a global context. Through comparative analysis, students examine how political institutions, international society, and public policy operate across different countries. Major topics include sovereignty, the nation-state, international law, electoral and bureaucratic systems, global issues, and comparative political institutions. Case studies, discussions, and the analysis of current affairs encourage students to connect political theories with contemporary issues. By the end of the course, students will be able to explain key concepts, interpret academic literature, construct conceptual frameworks using comparative perspectives, and develop evidence-based arguments about political and international affairs.
